3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE: Light straw to water white liquid.

IMMEDIATE CONCERNS: CAUTION! May cause eye and skin irritation.

POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS

EYES: May cause moderate burning, tearing, redness and swelling.

SKIN: Moderate irritation and discomfort possible. Defatting of skin, redness and chemical dermatitis possible. Toxic systemic effects from absorption are possible.

SKIN ABSORPTION: Refer to skin effects for any adverse symptoms that may occur from absorption.

INGESTION: Gastrointestinal tract irritation and/or discomfort is possible.

INHALATION: Moderate respiratory discomfort and/or headaches. Toxic systemic effects from inhalation are expected to be minor.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS AGGRAVATED: Individuals with pre-existing respiratory tract (nose, throat, and lungs), eye, and/or skin disorders may have increased susceptibility to the effects of exposure.

ROUTES OF ENTRY: Inhalation, Ingestion

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

EYES: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for 15 minutes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.

SKIN: Wash exposed area with mild soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation develops or persists.

INGESTION: Do not induce vomiting due to aspiration hazard. If vomiting occurs lower head below knees to avoid aspiration. Seek immediate medical attention.

INHALATION: Fresh air should alleviate any respiratory discomfort. If breathing difficulties develop or persist, get medical attention.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

FLASHPOINT AND METHOD: >(350°F)

FLAMMABLE CLASS: Treat as an OSHA Class IIIB Combustible Liquid

GENERAL HAZARD: Flammable Liquid, can release vapors that form flammable mixtures at temperatures at or above the flashpoint. "Empty" containers retain product residue (liquid and/or vapor) and can be dagerous.

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Use dry chemical, foam, or carbon dioxide.

HAZARDOUS COMBUSTION PRODUCTS: Oxides of carbon and noxious fumes.

EXPLOSION HAZARDS: Mists or sprays could ignite at temperatures below the indicated flash point. Keep ignition sources, open flames, etc., away from these fumes.

FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES: Proper respiratory equipment to protect against the hazardous effects of combustion products is recommended. Water in a straight hose stream may cause fire to spread and should be used as a cooling medium only.

FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT: Respiratory and eye protection are required for fire fighting personnel. Full protective equipment (Bunker Gear) and self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) should be used for all indoor fires and any significant outdoor fires. For small outdoor fires, which may easily be extinguished with a portable fire extinguisher, use of a SCBA may not be required.

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: Carbon monoxide if burned with insufficient air.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

SMALL SPILL:

Extinguish posssible sources of ignition and ventilate spill area. Dike area to contain spill and clean up by absorbing on an inert absorbent or other convenient means. Do not flush into sewers or natural waterways. Non-essential personnel should not enter area due to slipping hazards.

LARGE SPILL:

Contain material as described above and call the local fire or police department for immediate emergency assistance.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

HANDLING:

Keep away from heat, sparks or flame. Where flammable mixtures may be present, equipment safe for such locations should be used. Use clean tools and explosion-proof equipment. When transferring large volumes of product, metal containers, including trucks and tank cars, should be grounded and bonded. These products have a low vapor pressure and are not expected to present an inhalation hazard under normal temperatures and pressures. However, when aerosolizing, misting, or heating these products, do not breathe vapor or mist. Use in a well ventilated area. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, clothing and shoes.

STORAGE:

Store unopened containers under cool, dry and ventilated conditions. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame.

ENGINEERING CONTROLS: For normal application, special ventilation is not necessary. If user's operations generate fume or mist, use ventilation to keep exposure to airborne contaminants below the exposure limit. Make-up air should always be supplied to balance air removed by exhaust ventilation. Ensure that eyewash station and safety shower are close to work-station.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

EYES AND FACE: Use safety goggles or face shield.

SKIN: To prevent any contact, wear impervious protective clothing such as neoprene or butyl rubber gloves, apron, boots or whole bodysuit, as appropriate.

RESPIRATORY: Use NIOSH/MSHA approved respirators when vapors or mist concentrations exceed permissible exposure limits.

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING: Chemical resistant boots, apron, etc. as necessary to prevent contamination of clothing and skin contact.
